Llantwit Major & Cowbridge Lions are a member of Lions Clubs International – the largest NGO (Non Government Organisation) in the world. Our aim is to serve our local community.

The club is a registered charity CIO 1186291 and we raise funds by various means e.g. – Book Sales, Burger stall, Social evenings, Run the Bi Annual Cowbridge May Fair , Help out at the Llantwit Major Summer Fayre , provide  marshalls for the famous Cowbridge Reindeer Parade etc.

New President

Recently Lion Roland Hughes  took over from Lion Carol Stone

and Lion John Sullivan became Vice President

Recent  ativities include Attending the Cowbridge Mayor's  Volunteering  morning where we gave away 60 plus Message in a Bottle Bottles  and marshalling at the Llantwit Major 10K Run

Turkey and Syria Earthquake

We have donated to Lions Clubs International Foundation  who have already sent $200000 to Lions Clubs in the area  for direct on the scene use 

Part of the donation we forwarded was collected at our recent sucessful Call My Wine Bluff  as well a a collection made at Llantwit Major Repair cafe

Lions do it in All Weathers !!

Llantwit Major Events group and Llantwit Major and Cowbridge Lions  Braved the weather at the weekend to put on another sucessfull event .

Time Flies, It's 15 Years since Lion John Andrew joined Llantwit Major and Cowbridge Lions

To mark the event  John was presented  with his 15 yr chevron by President Dave

Lion John has also taken on the role of  Mayor of Cowbridge with Llanblethian and we wish him a sucessfull year 

 Lion President David Cox Recently Presented a cheque to  Llantwit Major Under 16 Rugby Club to help with their Rugby tour in June 2022

We were due to help at the Walking nativity , Carols by Candlelight and Carols in the Castle  in Cowbridge  but these have ALL been cancelled  but we look forward to NEXT YEAR .

In the meanwhile we are continuing to meet  at the Boverton Castle  3rd Thursday in the month . New members are always welcome .

As part of ourwork in supporting the local community we have supported the Cowbridge Gateway Monday Club both financially and physically for many years.

At their  recent Harvest Supper we were please to present them with a docation

Resumpion of physical Meetings

The  Club has resumed  face to face meetings  and some events .

We Welcomed Vice District Govenor Rav Sandu and  Chris Cheeny Cardiff Lions to Our September meeting 

The club is still collecting spectacles - please contact us if you have any .

Recenly  a book sale was held in Llantwit Major  and we  organised a games evening on the Bear Field  for the Cowbridge Monday Club. 

 The latest  (August 2021) £50 Prize draw saw the number 3 ticket being drawn. It is held by Lion Club Secretary John Wordley.

Socialy the August meeting was a "Sail Round the Bay"  with a Supper at Cardiff Bay Yacht Club

Ever heard of  Amazon Smile ?  If you shop via Amazon Smile   you can select a charity and Amazon make a small  donation  ( 0.5% of the purchase price )  to a charity of  your choice .  It  costs you nothing extra  and we would love you to make Llantwit Major and Cowbridge Lions Club CIO  the recipient :-)

 

The March Prize draw took place last Thursday at our Zoom business meeting and the winning number was 13 ( not so unlucky!)and the owner of the ticket is Julie Hamer a fellow Lion. The competition for new ticket holders was won by Roz (the foot) Couzens. She will receive a £20 voucher for coffee and treats at Lucy's Piccolu Blu Mobile Expresso at the Railway Station . Congrats to Julie and Roz.

We are still unable to hold our usual Fund-raising events and our collection tins at shops are not doing much because most shops are closed. However fellow Lion Dave Davis is buying Automatons (wooden toy construction kits) and either constructing them or giving them for a donation. The money raised will replenish our Charity Account.  If anyone wants one, please contact myself or the Lions tel no 0345 833 6763.

We have 83 tickets sold so our profit this month for donations is £150

Monthly Draw

Our January draw took place at out last Zoom meeting . The winner was Number 10 Karen . There is a new Under 5 football team being formed in Rhoose  which we are pleased to support .

In December we donated £1200  to 3 local foodbanks and £250  to the Salvation Army  

Our Collecting tins are still out there for the food banks  and we would welcome your donations

Vale Foodbank 

Lion President David and his wife Anne  in November  presented  the Vale food Bank  with a  cheques for £2000

Anne was instrumental  and the driving force behind the  production of  face masks  which  she has been selling for  £5.00  each  so a big thankyou to all who have purchased the masks

 

Memorial  Plaques

Over the last 4 years sadly 5 members of  our club have passed away . To record  their service to their community we have placed plaques on two benches in  the Llantwit Major Cemetery .

Lions Presentation Evening

We recently held a sucessfull presentation evening in the Lesser Hall Cowbridge  , the purpose of which was to present cheques to various local groups and charities .

The money primarily from the  generous collection made during the Cowbridge Reindeer Parade

Those receiving cheques were: Cowbridge Rotary Club , Cowbridge Gateway Monday Club , Cowbridge Barnardo’s Helpers’ Group ,Cylch Meithrin y Bont Faen , Bridgend Samaritans , Vale Foodbank , The Big Wrap , Wick Youth Club ,Llantwit Major Comprehensive School .

Representative from all the groups attanded  together with Sian Vaughan , the Deputy Mayor of Cowbridge with  Llanblethian Town Council  and of course members of Llantwit major and Cowbridge Lions Club 

Vale Stroke Support Group

Have you suffered a stroke or know someone who has ? Come and  join us for a chat, cup of tea and sometimes entertainment .   We meet  on the 3rd Tuesday  of each month at 2.00 pm in the Llantonian Hall Llantwit Major
